Be A Maxxinista

As a college student, I am very money conscious.  Even before college I would have a mini panic attack at the register if I spent a lot of money on clothes; you can imagine how I am now.  It's tough not spending a good amount of money for quality items.  That's why I love scouring the racks of T.J. Maxx and Marshalls.  These stores carry designer items at reduced prices--what fashionista, or should I say maxxinista as they say on the T.J.'s commercials, wouldn't love the sound of that!  However, there are some great tips that every maxxinista should know when it comes to shopping at these stores:

1. Visit T.J. Maxx and Marshalls regularly.  Maybe even weekly.  These stores are constantly getting new inventory, meaning new fabulous clothes, shoes, bags, and accessories for you, all the time!  So, definitely stop in to poke around frequently--you never know what you may find that will make your day.

2. Expand your location options.  Don't just stick to your local T.J's and Marshalls.  Try these stores in surrounding towns or in nearby cities because some get a better selection of products than others.  For instance, a few stores have an "Off the Runway" section that carries clothes from designer brands at reduced prices.  I know some cities get a better selection, too, because they are catering to a typically trendier crowd, so check them out!

3. Try on everything.  I know it's a pain to go to the dressing room and change into multiple outfits, but it will be worth it.  Oftentimes, these stores get clothes, shoes, and accessories that are defects so they may not fit perfectly.  It's best to try on everything to make sure the clothes fit just as you imagine them to.

If you follow these tips, then perhaps you'll score some great finds like I did this past weekend:

Top: (Left) Nine West Vintage America Collection Sweater; Original Price: $79.50, T.J. Maxx Price: $34.99
(Right) Cynthia Rowley Striped Sweater Dress; Original Price: $68.00, Marshalls Price: $39.99
Bottom: Steve Madden Studly Leopard Loafers; Original Price: $99.95, T.J. Maxx Price: $39.99

I love shopping at stores like T.J. Maxx and Marshalls because they have a lot of fashionable pieces that I'm willing to buy, yet I don't have to worry about having that mini panic attack when the cashier tells me my total.  These stores are definitely hit or miss, but if you go at the right time, you may find exactly what you're looking for at a decent price.  Remember, you don't always have to empty your wallet just to buy something fashionable.  True maxxinistas know how to choose the pieces that are high quality, yet reasonably priced.  Being a maxxinista is the way to go.
