New Years Eve.

Happy New Years Eve, everyone! I was going through my 'awesomefood.' Pinterest board and came across this pin. To ring in 2013, place a rock candy stick in your glass of champagne! This idea is perfect for any occasion, whether you're planning on dancing the night away or lounging at home with a box of chinese food. Doesn't it look so pretty?! I'm sure it tastes yummy, too. I hope everyone has a lovely New Years Eve! Have fun & be safe.

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas from my pup Winston and I! Even he got all dressed up with his Christmas tie!;) I hope everyone has a lovely and snowy Christmas day! Remind your loved ones how much you appreciate them, give some pretty gifts, open some yourself, and feast on a Christmas roast beast beef (sorry, I'm a huge "Grinch" fan). Have a wonderful day, everyone!

Gift Wrap Galore

Christmas is just hours away, and it's time to get wrapping! Wrapping presents is one of my favorite parts of the holiday season (besides actually giving family and friends their gifts) because I like to get creative. I like to wrap each present a different way specific to each person. This year my mom bought some adorable wrapping paper with a red, white, and black theme. She also bought some parchment paper, which I had fun with. I dressed up the brown paper by making my own red snowflakes to go on top--an idea I got from Pinterest. Here's a sneak peek of my wrapped gifts!

What do you think? I think they came out pretty good, and I had fun wrapping! For more gift wrap ideas you can check out my 'arts&crafts' Pinterest board. Also, tweet me (@alsgillette) pictures of your beautifully wrapped gifts! Have fun wrapping!

If your loved one is planning on spending a lot of time in the snow this winter, then the first thing  he or she will need is a down jacket. I was hesitant in getting one last winter for Christmas because I thought they were too puffy and unattractive, but I ended up getting one as a gift and I love it! The coat actually doesn't make you look like a marshmallow; it's extremely warm, well-fitted, and waterproof. Other winter staples include flannel shirts, infinity scarves, cozy sweaters, knit hats, and gloves. Above are just a few trendy versions of these items. The men in your life can be difficult to buy for, whether he's your brother, boyfriend, husband, guy BFF, cousin, or even dad, especially when you're unsure of their style. The gift options above are just a sampling of the trendy pieces for men this winter. You can't really go wrong with any of them. Do keep in mind though that some of the items above may be geared towards a younger crowd. For instance, if you're looking to buy for your dad or husband who works a 9-5 office job, don't buy him a beanie and a bandana. Give him the UO flannel plaid tie or a stylish J. Crew iPhone case so he'll look trendy taking those business calls. Also, remember that men are most happy with simple gifts and necessity items, for instance, socks. Men love getting socks as gifts because then they don't have to go out and buy them on their own! So, treat your guy to a nice pair of thick socks to get him through the cold winter. I hope this gift guide helps! I know I'll definitely be taking it into consideration while shopping for the gents in my life. Good luck shopping!

Christmas Dorm Decorating

Being away from home during the Christmas season can be rough, especially when you're at college spending more time writing papers and studying for finals rather than getting in the Christmas spirit. Decorating your dorm room or apartment lets you take a break from schoolwork and will make your living arrangements more festive! Most of the decorations in my room came from home, but there's opportunity to get crafty with your decor, as well.

One of the must-have decorations for the holiday season is Christmas lights. Not only do they bring the holiday spirit into an otherwise boring, square, cinderblock room, but they also provide a comforting glow while studying. I have both strands of lights hanging around my room and a light-up snowflake hanging in the window.

Another Christmas decorating must-have is window sill decorations, such as nutcrackers, little christmas trees, and other stand-up Christmas embellishments. I have a large picture window in my dorm room, so I placed four little Christmas trees [not enough room for a big tree!], a glittery 'Joy' sign, and a hot pink, sequin nutcracker along the sill.

To get in the Christmas spirit, I also brought two Santa wine glasses with me from home and some candy cane Hershey's kisses, which if you haven't tried them already, you should. My roommate and I also always have ABC Family's 25 Days of Christmas on our TV. Even if we're studying, it's nice background noise.

Christmas dorm decorating is simple and can be done on a college budget. The best way to get some good decorations is steal from home! Also, you can get lights from CVS at low prices. The fact is, just because you're away from home during the Christmas season, doesn't mean you can't be festive. Christmas is my favorite time of the year, so I could never pass up an opportunity to decorate and get in the holiday spirit. Even a strand of lights will make a plain dorm room a little bit merrier. So, get on decorating! I mean, Santa is coming after all.

Burgundy & Black

Burgundy & Black

LOFT Peplum Colorblock Sheath Dress // ASOS Oxblood Leather Pants // AllSaints Blocked Slip // ASOS Bordeaux/Grey Anabela Leather Jacket // Madewell Stadium Jacket //  / BDG Chelsea Lace-Up Boot // Burgundy Laces // Essie Masquerade Belle

This season I've been seeing burgundy and black pieces being paired together everywhere, and I love it! This color combination is perfect if you're going for a sophisticated, perhaps even  an edgy look and don't want to wear all black. The dark, wine red color really mixes it up. This color combo can be worn in many different ways, too. Try wearing burgundy-colored jeans or leather pants with a black top and blazer. Two-tone burgundy and black pieces are good staples to add to your wardrobe as well, like the peplum dress above from LOFT or the old school stadium jacket from Madewell. You can get creative with how you combine the two colors too, for instance, today I saw a girl walking down the street on campus wearing black lace-up boots, like the ones above from Urban Outfitters, with burgundy laces and they looked chic--definitely a style to try! For more style ideas, check out Pinterest. The pairing is definitely stylish for the late fall and winter months, so start loading up on burgundy and black clothing, nail polishes, and even shoe laces!

Do It Afraid.

The past couple of weeks have been a whirlwind of new experiences for me. If I had to say at least one thing I've learned, it would be this:

Keep in mind, you will never see your full potential until you reach completely out of your comfort zone. It's okay to be afraid when trying something new, but as the quote states, you should do it with boldness and confidence. You will amaze yourself seeing just how much you are capable of doing. Just some words of wisdom to think about!:)
