The Kills for Equipment

As I was browsing through stacks of fashion, beauty, and health magazines at my internship, I happened across two of my favorite musicians and style icons--Alison Mosshart and Jaime Hince of The Kills. The pair are the new face of Equipment's spring/summer 2013 campaign.

Honestly, I can't think who else would be a better face for the brand. Mosshart and Hince have always rocked the button down look like nobody else. After I saw them perform live at the Royale in Boston, I immediately became obsessed with Alison Mosshart's style. I googled her navajo print button down for weeks after the show hoping to find it for sale somewhere. I just couldn't accept the fact that she's way too cool to shop at any average store. All of her pieces were either one-of-a-kind or from small, vintage shops in Europe.

So, I can't even contain my excitement over the fact that she and Hince are now the face of Equipment. Now I actually have access to her edgy and chic button downs! Here are a few of my favorite photos from the Equipment campaign:

They've got that rocker chic vibe down pat, that's for sure. Also, doesn't Mosshart look like Helena Bonham Carter a little bit? I've always thought that. I think that's why I love both of their crazy styles. Anyway, here's a quick look at the behind-the-scenes video! You can also watch the official promo video here. Enjoy!

NYFW Trends I Love

New York Fashion Week has come and gone, but I'm hoping some of these trends are here to stay! I didn't have a whole lot of time to live stream a lot of the fashion week shows. I watched a couple shows live during the Nemo storm since I was snowed in. But, unfortunately, it's midterm month so that's been my main focus. I have been staying in the loop, though, by relying on Refinery 29, blogs, and other news sources for the latest trends. Here are my three favorites!

Relaxed Leather Pants

And I thought leather leggings couldn't get any better! These relaxed leather pants are killer. What's so great about these pants is that they are cut almost like a pair of cropped dress pants, except they're leather and way cooler! Not to mention they look super comfy and can be dressed up or down. You can pair these pants with a cozy sweater, like the model in the Belstaff show, or with a printed button down, like the model in the Rebecca Minkoff show.

Beanies Paired With Everything

I've always been obsessed with winter hats. Every winter I'm drawn to all different colorful beanies, and I always have to tell myself, "No Allie, you have 18,937 already!" It's pretty ridiculous. But, BCBG Max Azria and Rebecca Minkoff have proved that it's okay to wear a beanie no matter the style of your outfit, depending on the occasion of course. Pair a knit hat with a dress, skirt, casual pants, and lots of layers.

The Sweater + Skirt Combo

A warm, comfy sweater paired with a sophisticated or statement skirt is the perfect combination for all different occasions. The Burberry Prorsum and J.Crew styles are great for the office. These styles also prove that it's okay to wear color in the fall. Just because it's getting colder doesn't mean that you have to wear blacks, grays, and navies all the time. This Belstaff look is good for day-to-day wear. I especially love the contrast of the leather pleated skirt and the bulky knit cardigan. Perfect for a brisk Saturday walk in the city!

Usually the designers of fashion week show some beautiful outfits, but you can't really picture yourself walking down the street in them. These styles are actually wearable, which I'm very excited about. If you want to see more fashion week collections, I highly suggest checking out ELLE's website. They have every designer's collection in a slideshow of photos from their shows. I spent a good amount of time flipping through them, and I barely made a dent in seeing all of the designers. I simply posted the looks I like best. Definitely check the others out though! What do you think of my favorite NYFW trends? Would you wear them?

A Touch of Pink

Now, I normally don't wear a lot of pink, especially in the winter, but Valentine's Day called for a little spirit. This was my daytime V-day outfit! I was having a terrible hair day, so I threw on a black beanie to pull the look together. I guess it didn't turn out so bad after all...

Cardigan: Gap (old, similar) // Shirt: Urban Outfitters (similar) // Jeans: Levi's (similar) // Boots: Lucky Brand (old, similar) // Jewelry: Urban Outfitters

Sometimes throwing a hat on over your unmanageable hair does just the trick, or at least covers it up enough to make you feel a little better ;). Otherwise, I actually liked wearing this little pop of pink. It was a nice change since I don't usually wear this cardigan. What do you think? What did you wear on Valentine's Day?

Floral Friday

The weather has been so warm here in Boston. It's been pretty wonderful. I definitely don't miss the numbing winds walking up and down Commonwealth Ave every day. In honor of this warm weather front, I had to sport my floral leggings. Spring is coming after all!

These Urban Outfitters leggings are the most comfortable things ever. I feel like I'm wearing pajamas all day without looking like a sleepyhead! It's fabulous. Anyway, I hope my floral pants make the spring flowers bloom a little faster? I mean, don't get me wrong, I love winter. But, this warm weather has been such a tease! What have you been wearing on these sunny, warm days?

Spread the Love

Image source: Aponta Pra Fe E Rema

Happy Valentine's Day everyone! Any special plans? I'm probably going out to dinner with Drew. We keep listing possible Boston restaurants to go to but can't decide, so if anyone has suggestions on good Boston restaurants, let me know!:) But aside from special dates and such, today's really the day to spread the love. And not just to your boyfriend/girlfriend or spouse, but to everyone you know--friends, family, coworkers, or even the person who gives you your morning coffee. They will appreciate it, and who knows? You might get a little something in return. So smile at everyone and show how much you care for those around you. Plus, eat some chocolate. What are you doing this Valentine's Day?

Valentine's Day Nail Polish

With so much time on my hands this past weekend, being snowed into my dorm and all (thanks, Nemo), I was able to paint my nails for Valentine's Day! I guess all the free time paid off because now I have cute little hearts on my fingers to brighten my week of midterms!

This nail art is easy and fun, although I will confess that it took me a few tries to get the hearts just right. For nail polishes I used Sephora's Access 24/7 (similar) and Essie's Good as Gold. To do the hearts, I used the end of a bobby pin to carefully drag a dab of polish into a heart shape. Let me know what you think! How will you paint your nails for Valentine's Day?

Valentine's Day Outfits For All Occasions

Whether you have Valentine's Day plans or not, I think it's always fun to dress up for the holiday. Throw on some pink or red and maybe a heart-inspired piece and you're good to go! Here are some Valentine's Day outfit ideas for all different occasions--a fancy dinner date, a casual V-day dinner with friends, and a night in with your loved one.

Fancy Dinner Date:

I have a pair of these BDG faux leather leggings and they are just as comfy as regular leggings but look edgier and a bit dressier. Layer a chambray button-down to complete the look. You can add other pink accents, too, like these Urban Outfitters hot pink sneakers and "LOVE" bracelet.

These are just a few outfit ideas for all different V-day plans and occasions. Hopefully they inspire you to pull out your pinks and reds in honor of Valentine's Day! What will you wear on this special day?

Valentine's Day Gift Guide

Valentine's Day Gift Guide

Ladies: Butter London Come To Bed Red, $15 // Butter London Trout Pout, $15 // Alex and Ani Key To My Heart bracelet, $28 (similar) // Bath and Body Works Paris Amour, $34.50 // Forever 21 Pearlescent Heart Studs, $3.80 // Georgetown Cupcake Valentine's Chocolate Cupcake, $2.75
Gents: Urban Outfitters Naughty Valentine Heart Candy, $3.00 // Tickets (image source) // Forever 21 Heart Boxer Set, $10.80 // Forever 21 Heart Print Socks, $2.80 // Urban Outfitters You Owe Me Coupons, $5.95

Happy February! Valentine's Day is coming, and it's time to start thinking of gifts for your loved ones. Now I'm not a huge Valentine's Day gift-giver. I'd much rather go  out to a nice dinner or ice skating on Frog Pond with my boyfriend. But, I do like giving little things to the ones I love just to brighten their day.

Above are some cute V-Day gift ideas all under $40! For the men in your life, I suggest something small, like candy or new socks (every guy loves new socks, believe it or not). But, if you're looking for something big to give to your BF, get him tickets to a sports game or concert! He'll love it because you thought of what he's interested in, plus it's something the two of you can do together.

As for the ladies, candy and jewelry! I love this adorable Alex and Ani Key To Your Heart bracelet. It goes well with other bracelets that your girlfriend might already have, and it's reasonably priced. Purchase this bracelet as soon as possible, though, because it's selling fast! Another perfect gift idea is a cupcake from Georgetown Cupcakes. They have a store location on Newbury Street in Boston (plus others here). I highly suggest the Valentine's cupcake shown above in either chocolate or vanilla.

These are just a few Valentine gift ideas for your loved ones, but don't get too caught up in hunting for the perfect item. I mean, give me a Georgetown Cupcake and I'm happy as can be. Valentine's Day is more about spending time with the one you love.
