Denim Vest

I am really loving denim vests right now. Even though they're so 80s/90s, they can bring an outfit to a whole new level. I've been eyeing this one from Gap during my work shifts. I finally decided I was going to buy it today, and we didn't have my size! Of course. That's what I get for waiting. I did get these lovelies though!

Anyway, denim vests can be worn with many different styles. They are seen a lot in some festival styles and grungy looks, but they can be worn in girlier ways too. I love the look of throwing a denim vest over a sundress or pairing one with a maxi skirt with heels. The denim vest can also be worn over a t-shirt with some colored bottoms for a more casual look. No matter what you pair the vest with, it acts as an interesting layering piece. As much as I believe a good denim jacket it is a must-have, the denim vest may be up there too. After you've bought a full-sleeve denim jacket first! Would you wear a denim vest like seen above? How would you style it?

A Little College Advice

I've been done with my sophomore year of college for a few weeks now, and I still can't believe that I'm already half-way through. My senior prom feels like it was just yesterday. Unfortunately I have photos to remind me how long ago it actually was--I look so young! Thinking back to the summer before my first year of college and my first month at school, I remember how overwhelmed I was with packing and the overall transition. It is a life change after all, but hopefully this post will help make the transition a little easier.

My mom is huge into making lists and starting the packing process early, especially for my first year of college. Now I'm the exact same way. I'm already thinking of what I'm going to bring to London! I highly suggest new incoming freshmen do the same. Start your packing list NOW so you're not scrambling at the end of the summer to get your things organized. That's the time when you should be relaxing! These are some of the basic items you may want to start looking for now:

Note: Many of these items can be found on Residence Hall Linens, so be sure to check it out!
  • Bedding - And not just your standard sheets and comforter. You'll want a mattress pad, too, for extra comfort! Check out RHL for some great deals.
  • Bed Risers - For some extra storage space!
  • Towels - Including bath, hand and face towels.
  • Large plastic tupperware/drawers - These are great for underneath your bed. I used them to store my dishes, silverware, hats & scarves, and toiletries.
  • Laundry bag - Buy a bag, not a basket because it's easier to carry to the laundry room.
  • Extension cords/Power strips - Bring these especially if you're living in an old building; there may not be a lot of outlets!
  • Brita filter - These are perfect if you don't feel like having to constantly buy packs of water bottles and lug them up to your room.
  • Photos/Posters - These are the details that really personalize your room and make you feel more at home.
These are just a few items that are must-haves for college. Like I said before, Residence Hall Linens is a great place to start shopping for bedding, bath and storage essentials. Plus, you can get an additional $25 off your purchase with the discount code below. While shopping for college dorm necessities, you'll definitely want that discount!

Remember, college shopping and packing should be fun, so don't let it overwhelm you! For other dorm decorating ideas, check out All Dressed Up, Everywhere To Go's DIY page. If you have any other questions about prepping for college, always feel free to ask!:)

DISCOUNT CODE:  "MAYSAVE25RHL" which takes $25 off Value Packs ONLY.

The Easiest Outfit Ever

My true self...in case anyone was wondering.
Jeans: American Eagle (similar) // T-shirt: LOFT // Blazer: Gap (similar) // Shoes: Steve Madden (old) // Bracelets: Alex + Ani // Earrings: c/o JoJo Loves You

Yesterday I was struggling with what to wear to work. My mom gave me the perfect outfit idea: jeans, a white t-shirt and blazer. So simple, right?! And despite the outfit's simplicity, it will fool everyone into thinking you planned the look in advance. With some good accessories, such as the JoJo Loves You Bling earrings I'm wearing above, you'll look perfectly put together. This is one of the benefits of living at home with my family this summer; on the spot outfit ideas from my mother in no time at all!

FYI JoJo Loves You is having a sale this weekend! Check out their website to see their beautiful earrings. More to come on that later in the week so keep reading!

Ankle Strap Flats

Ankle Strap Flats

1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6

I've been really into flats lately for spring. In the past I never really wore flats. I would've rather worn ankle boots than flats because they're way more comfortable and don't give me blisters. But, as I find myself having to dress in business attire more often (ahh, I'm getting old, like, almost get-a-real-job old), I've been getting used to incorporating them into my outfits both formal and casual.

Currently I'm loving ankle strap flats like the ones above. These flats look and feel just like regular ones, and you may be thinking, "why is this skinny piece of leather wrapped on my ankle even necessary?" Well let me tell you, this little leather strap will totally make the shoe and your outfit. Ankle straps accentuate your ankles and can sometimes make them look skinnier if you wear the shoes correctly. When styling ankle strap flats, be aware of the strap size on the shoe. Some flats have thick ankle straps, while others are thinner. If you have thick ankles, stay away from very thin ankle straps because they may make your ankles look thicker. On the other hand, if you have skinny ankles, stay clear of thick ankle straps because they could overbear your ankles.

If you style these shoes correctly, they are very flattering and make average ballet flats way cooler. They come in lots of fun colors and patterns, as well. Some are even color-blocked, which make them even more fun. Did I sell you on ankle strap flats yet? I know I sold myself! I'm still looking for the perfect pair. Would you wear any of the ankle strap flats above?

Hello Summer!

Source: Pinterest

I apologize for the slight lull in posts this past week. I've been busy finishing up finals, moving out of my dorm, unpacking everything and starting my new jobs. Sounds fun, doesn't it? Ha! Yeah, no, my mom will not be content until everything is packed away. I can't blame her either. I had a dream last night that I had to move out of another dorm room and unpack everything at home again, and I was freaking out because I didn't know where I was going to put all of the stuff! Talk about a nightmare...neat freaks will agree with me!

Anyway, this week marks the first official week of summer break for me. Yippeeee! This summer I plan on keeping busy. I'll be working at the Gap, so don't be shocked if you see more and more Gap pieces in my outfit posts. But, please note that all opinions and clothing choices are my own. I'm also working part-time for an event planning company, which I'm very excited about. Aside from being somewhat of a workaholic (sorry, I like to keep busy), I plan on soaking up the sun at the beach and hanging with friends and family before I leave for London! Wait did I say London? YES! I'm studying abroad in London next fall! So, keep reading as I prepare for my trip and write to you all from across the pond. I've never been to London before so it should be quite an adventure. Let me know if anyone has any traveling tips! Hope you all are having a great day!

Last Minute Mother's Day Gift Guide

Last Minute Mother's Day Gift Guide

Anthropologie Crystalline Hair Ties // Paper Source Spanish Rose iPhone Case // Paper Source Gold Stripe iPhone Case // Paper Source Roslie Rifle Note Pad // Lilly Pulitzer Tote Bag // Covergirl NatureLuxe Gloss Balm // Essie "Go Ginza" Polish // Natural Life Chip Clips // Anthropologie Capri Blue Volcano Candle

Mother's Day is on Sunday, and I still haven't gotten my mom a gift...eek! I guess I have the excuse that I was too busy studying for finals (are good grades a nice Mother's Day gift?), but either way, I'll be shopping very last minute. So, I decided to put together this little last minute Mother's Day gift guide for anyone else who may be doing the same.

These little trinkets are perfect for moms because they are items most mothers use on a day-to-day basis, but they're adorable and will definitely brighten her day. For instance, these Natural Life chip clips may seem like an odd gift, but families use them everyday and they're way more pleasant to look at than the bulky plastic ones. Also, this Anthropologie Volcano candle is probably the best smelling candle ever. My mum has bought a couple already, but I'm sure she (and other moms) would love another one. Some other ideas include a pretty iPhone case for tech-savvy moms or a beach tote for the summer.

No matter what you buy, the best gift your mom could ever want is your appreciation. Give your mom a huge hug for everything she's done for you! I know my mum has gone above and beyond to support me and cheer me up, and she definitely deserves the best Mother's Day. What are your plans or gift ideas for your mom this Mother's Day?

Met Gala Marvels

On Monday night I took a little study break and watched the Vogue live stream of the Met Gala red carpet. I was trying to stay focused on studying for my finals, but I kept seeing people's tweets about what the celebs were wearing and just had to cave. I'm glad I did because I loved the punk theme. There were so many studs, spikes, feathers, rhinestones, leather accents and patterns--all of my favorite things! The hair and makeup was amazing, too. The punky and beautiful ensembles brought me back to my days of dance costumes and stage makeup, and I loved every minute. These were my faves of the night:

Sarah Jessica Parker in Giles Deacon (dress) & Phillip Treacy (headpiece)
SJP was by far my favorite. Her faux mohawk head piece really made her stand out in the crowd of punks. How Carrie Bradshaw of her!

Had to add this picture of Jennifer Lawrence and SJP because I love them both. You can also see the details of SJP's beautiful Phillip Treacy headpiece a lot better.

Anne Hathaway in Valentino
Hathaway is probably one of the last people I would think to pull off the punk look well. When Valentino offered to dress her for the gala she replied, "Have you ever done punk, darling?" But darling Anne, we could've said the same for you! But she looks beautiful and punky. What really makes the ensemble even more punk-ish is her newly blonde hair. I'm loving it!

Rooney Mara in Givenchy
When I first saw Mara I thought, "hasn't she done that look already?" And she has! She usually pulls out the all black or all white gowns and looks stunning (hello, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo London premiere). She may have gone with the same trend here, but this look is one of her best. The accentuated shoulders certainly give the Givenchy gown a punk vibe, but the dark lip is what made me do a double take. She pulls it off so well!

Cara Delevingne in Burberry
The spikes on the entire top of Delevingne's gown truly make this a punk look, but the plunging V-neckline and long necklaces make the look more dramatic and red carpet worthy. Her hair was also fabulous. She nailed the whole distressed, punk "I don't care what my hair looks like" look, and the side french braid pulled it all together.

All the Met Gala guests looked beautiful. It was hard to narrow the list down to just four! To see more pictures, head to The Huffington Post, or if you've got a little free time, watch the entire live stream on Vogue.com! What were your favorite Met Gala looks? Did you like the punk theme? Comment below!

What To Wear For Finals Week

What To Wear For Finals Week
H&M Denim Jacket // Forever 21 Tie-Dye Tee // H&M Maxi Skirt // Steve Madden BACKUP Sandals // Gap T-shirt Pocket Dress // Gap Neon-stripe Infinity Scarf // Gap Skinny Braided Belt // Madewell Sidewalk Skimmer // H&M Knitted Sweater // ASOS Vila Tie Dye Leggings // Keds x Kate Spade Kick Sneakers

To all of the college students reading...it's finals week (ugh)! Although finals week is the worst week of the semester, it also means that we're thaaat much closer to summer. Therefore, we should dress like it! I'm a firm believer in dressing to impress, even if it's just for myself. This includes test days when all you want to do is throw on a pair of yoga pants. Dressing up makes me feel confident and prepared for the day, which is the attitude you'll need to ace those exams.

One outfit option is to wear a maxi skirt with a cute t-shirt tied at the hip, denim jacket and sandals. A while back I wrote a post about how great maxi skirts are because they're basically like yoga pants in skirt form. Instead of wearing yoga pants all week, try wearing a maxi skirt! They're soft and flowy making them the perfect pieces to wear on exam days. Another option is a shorter cotton dress. Similar to a maxi skirt, the cotton fabric is soft and flowy--perfect for warm days when you could be taking an exam in a stuffy classroom. One last option is a spring version of the popular leggings and sweater combo. Wear a long, loose-fitting tank top underneath your sweater as an extra layer in case you're exam room is too hot or you're getting nervous chills before taking your final (this always happens to me). The next step is to accessorize. Jewelry always makes me feel put together, so I like to throw on some cute earrings and a few bracelets before walking out the door.

Now that I've shared a few finals week outfits that are cute and comfortable, you have no excuse to wear yoga pants (and USA Today College agrees)! That may sound harsh, but honestly, you'll feel so much better taking an exam when you're feeling confident with how you look. Best of luck during finals week! J.Crew Brights

Sweater: J.Crew Factory (similar) // Jacket: LOFT (old, similar) // Jeans: American Eagle (old, similar) // Shoes: Michael Kors (similar) // Necklace: J.Crew Factor

A couple of weeks ago I took advantage of one of J.Crew Factory's many online sales and bought this coral crew neck (similar) and neon statement necklace (yes, I'm wearing the necklace again as seen in my earlier post). I've worn both of these pieces multiple times. The sweater is so soft and just the right weight for spring, plus I love the pinky coral color. J.Crew has many other bright color options for spring and summer, so check them out online if you can't get to the store.

The key to wearing multiple bright colors for spring is to stick to solids. Patterns plus multi-colors is a no-no. You'll just look like a walking highlighter! If you're uncomfortable wearing too many bright colors at once, try what I did and sport the brights on top and stick to casual jeans on the bottom (or vice versa). This is just one of my recent attempts to dress in bright colors for spring. I think I'm doing pretty well so far! What do you think?

Madewell Shopping Event Recap

First off, thank you to all who came to Madewell's Summer Send-Off Shopping Party last Thursday. I had such a fun time styling our guests and eating Georgetown Cupcakes! I can't thank Ava and Monica enough for inviting me. All of the clothes were adorable for summer; it was so hard to choose which pieces I wanted to be my top picks. But I didn't expect anything less from Madewell since I usually want to buy the whole store (and I did end up buying a couple items). For those of you who didn't make it, here are a few photos from the event as well as some of the beautiful ladies' outfits from the Instagram contest.
