NYFW Faves

For those of you who don't know, this past week was New York Fashion Week. I may be in London, but that didn't stop my friend Ava and I from flipping through the slideshows of as many New York Fashion Week shows as possible and pinning away. I decided to gather some of my favorite looks here. To clarify, fall fashion week is for designers' spring collections. It's confusing because you'd think everyone would want to see fall clothes for fall! Nope. Fashion Week is really for designers' to share their collections for the upcoming season so that retail buyers can decide which pieces they want for their stores, and the media can spread the news about what's in and what's out. Here are some of my NYFW faves:

Nicole Miller

Nicole Miller's spring collection was definitely one of my favorites. The pieces are classics--pencil skirts, blazers, jackets and dresses--with clean silhouettes, but the fabrics Miller uses make the outfit look like chaos in a good way. Miller also makes floral less feminine by adding bold black patterns and leather to each piece, which I I love. Beaded accessories still keep the look girly.

Kate Spade New York

Kate Spade's collection is everything I'd expect--bright, playful and wearable. I chose these two looks because I love the jackets in both and the color combinations.  I think the gray and white combination works well with her collection because it's more neutral. Most of her pieces are bold pinks and blues, but this look proves that you can still be bold and wear neutral colors. I'm digging the top knots on the models as well.

Rebecca Minkoff

Rebecca Minkoff's collection has a more bohemian style. I love her use of colors--aquas, beiges, whites and corals. To me, these are the best colors for spring because they are light and will bring you right into summer. What I love most about Minkoff's collection are the bohemian prints and funky, strappy shoes.

Rachel Roy

Another classic color combination for spring that Rachel Roy uses perfectly is navy and white. It's usually very nautical and for some reason I can really only picture it in a stripe, but Roy changes this. She may have used structured button downs and jackets that give it a preppy, nautical style, but Roy also uses mirrored graphics to keep it interesting. Looks like perfection to me!

Erin Fetherston

If Erin Fetherston's collection doesn't scream spring then I don't know what does. Each look, to me, is a different version of a flower child or garden fairy. The collection is dreamy, colorful and playful--everything that spring has to offer. Plus, I love seeing some fashion week photos from off the runway.

As you can see NYFW brought a number of different styles for spring. Whether you like neutrals, bright colors, bold patterns or simple fabrics, each designer brings something for everyone to get inspired by.
