Microsoft Surface 2 Blogger Event

Yesterday I attended a Her Campus Boston blogger event at the Microsoft store to test out its new Surface 2 tablet! I'm not very tech saavy or into tech products to be honest, but the opportunity was pretty great. I get to borrow a Surface 2 tablet to try for a whole month! Yes, I'm using it now. And yes, it's pretty awesome. Lily from Microsoft taught us all about the Surface 2's features, such as having the ability to use two apps at once and take 3-D photos. I'll be writing another post on the Surface tablet soon with more details (I'm still trying to figure it out :/).
Her Campus Founder Windsor Hanger introducing us to Lily, who taught us all about the Surface 2.

The event was very fun and a great way for me to meet some local bloggers who I had only ever met online--weird, I know. The odd part was throughout the entire event all of us bloggers were on our phones tweeting and instagramming the whole thing, since the person with the best social media coverage won a brand new Surface 2 tablet. Of course I was participating because I wanted to win that tablet, but I wasn't a huge fan of everyone being on their phones the whole time. Maybe I'm just being too old school..
Event treats.

Anyway, I did get to chat a lot with some of the lovely Her Campus Blogger Network ladies (it was a pleasure meeting you!), and there were a plethora of treats, including these delish chocolate covered strawberries. We also had a little Just Dance party towards the end, which is always a good time. Overall, I had a great Friday afternoon pretending to be a techie!

Happy weekend!

Florida Photo Diary

Sunset selfies.
 Sangria slushy in a pail.
 Beachside fire pits & cocktails.
I even found a little piece of London.

As I'm studying away for my numerous midterms and projects this week, I am really wishing I was back in Florida in the sunshine. The week was much-needed and oh so relaxing. My days were filled with sun, salt water, sand, good reads (currently Orange is the New Black), tropical drinks, seafood and family. I even found a bit of London at one of the boutiques in downtown Venice. I absolutely love this catstudio pillow, and it even says Paul Smith on it! Right now I'm wishing I could go back to the easy days of flip flops, shorts and t-shirts. Good thing summer is right around the corner!

5 Things To Do Over Spring Break

The countdown is 3 days…I repeat 3 days until spring break! After a busy first half of the semester, I'm so ready to take a week off to relax and collect myself to finish off the semester strong. Fortunately, I'm going to Florida my mum to visit my grandparents. It's become an annual thing, and I'm not complaining [see last year's spring break post]. But whether you're getting away from the winter weather for a few days or just hanging at home [I'll be doing that for the latter half], these 5 activities will help you have as relaxing a break as possible.

  1. Read. Not a textbook, of course. I think all college students can agree that 9 days away from textbooks is an amazing thing, but you should use these 9 days to read what you want. My communication professors are always telling us to read everything we can and absorb as much information as possible--you never know where you'll get your next inspiration! Try to read at least one book that you want to read. It could be the perfect thing to clear your mind.

  2. Try something new. Try a new recipe. Test out a DIY project you saw on Pinterest. Choose something you've always wanted to try and do it! This way you can work your mind and creativity. A lot of times I can get lazy over school breaks, but by trying out a new activity like a workout class or other project, you can keep your mind and body active.
  3. Sleep. This is a given. I don't think I need to give you much motivation to do this one but sleep, sleep, sleep! I find that even though I get about 7-8 hours of sleep per night at school [or less], I'm still overtired because the hours of sleep are not always as restful as they need to be. Take the time to get a good night's sleep over spring break. And I don't mean stay up till 2:00am and wake up at 2:00pm to get 12 hours of sleep because that's still not beneficial. Get to bed and wake up at a decent hour--you'll feel more refreshed!

  4. Spend time with friends and family. You may be missing your friends at school, or you may just want to hole up in your room and watch Netflix for all of break, but instead of being anti-social, spend time with the people you don't get to see every day while at school. Have a movie night with your family or call up a hometown friend to go to coffee. As much as your college friends are probably the best, don't forget about all the people from home! They can still give you just as much happiness, and it could be fun to reflect on old times--always stay connected.
  5. Do what you want. I may be offering advice on things you should be doing during spring break, but obviously the important thing is to do what you want. Do whatever makes you the most happy and peaceful. This is the one week of the semester when you can take a break, so do what you want to do. Then, you'll go back to school ready to take on the rest of the semester with ease.
Have a relaxing spring break!

Gap Deals: Back to Blue

Gap Deals: Back to Blue

Last weekend my friends and I went to brunch at Zaftigs in Coolidge Corner (see my mimosa Instagram?), and while we were waiting to nom away on bagel chips and potato pancakes we decided to pop into the Gap.  Little did I know, the sale shopping would be extremely successful! I had been eyeing this floral bomber jacket shown above since just after the holidays when it was still $98. But, I decided to wait since Gap is notorious for their deals. Turns out last Saturday was my lucky day when there was one floral bomber in my size just waiting for me on the sale rack. The orange sale price sticker said it was now $48.99--helloooo! When I got to the register the price was reduced even more…wait for it…$16.99! I'm sorry I get really excited for crazy deals like this, so I just had to share. I purchased a jacket originally priced at $98 for a mere $16.99--with a gift card, I might add.

I found a few other good deals, as well. I snagged this aqua striped sweatshirt shown above for 40% off and two V-necks for 50% off. I hadn't shopped at the Gap in a while, but now I'm psyched to go back and see what I'll find next time. Above, I've featured a few other sale pieces that I love. I'm going with a blue theme, since one of Gap's recent campaigns used the "back to blue" slogan. Also I think I'm just overly excited to swim in the ocean in a week when I'm in Florida for spring break. Spring is almost here!

Now, shop away!
